Biography
Dr. Martin Schimpf is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Schimpf earned his Ph.D. in physical/analytical chemistry from the University of Utah. Since coming to Boise State University in 1990. He has been Principal Investigator on a variety of projects, including grants funded by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. The provost supervises all academic units and programs, including 43 departments and 625 faculty serving nearly 20,000 students. Schimpf is responsible for ensuring the quality of the faculty and student body through leadership in areas such as academic policies, promotion and tenure, faculty recognition, library, the Honors College and academic support services. Professional Awards: Review of more than 230 research proposals and manuscripts for funding agencies and professional journals, including the National Science Foundation, Petroleum Research Fund, Departments of Energy and Defense, Analytical Chemistry, Macromolecules, Environmental Science and Technology, J. Chromatography, Advances in Chemistry, Separation Science, J. Chemical Society, Entropie, Physical Reviews. Member of Permanent Scientific Committee for International Symposium on Field-Flow Fractionation (1998-2007). Member of Scientific Committee for International Meeting on Thermodiffusion (1999-2002, 2008- 2010). Associate Editor of Chemical Educator (1996-2000). President-elect and President of Sigma-Xi Research Society, Boise Chapter (1994-1998). Boise State University Foundation Award for Distinguished Research (1999).
Research Area
materials characterization, environmental analysis, thermophoresis, and field-flow fractionation. Dr. Schimpf has published his work in a variety of journals within the fields of chemistry and physics, and has presented at conferences and symposia around the world.
